Producer’s Comment:

I’m still using Japanese and English VOCALOIDs to piece together Chinese-style songs.
This was collected in the 2013 VOCAWORLD-02 memorial compilation album “-to gather your voice-“.
…Sort of. This version has the backup vocals lowered. If you compare it to the album version, it’s a bit more lonely, and a bit more free.

This time, I got Mr. Kadid to do the PV. This was my first time working together with a PV maker.

After the sun sets, she wakes from the darkness. Her left eye is full of hope, her right eye despair.
人們幻想著她的國度　安靜的沈寂的　永恆得很抽象
The people fantasize about her kingdom, imagining it full of peace and quiet, forever abstract to the extreme.
旅人眼前的路標　只像風向雞一樣旋轉　擺盪
The road sign in front of travelers spins around just like a weathervane, swaying to and fro.

Producer’s Comment:

A remake of a really, really old song I made long ago.
The original was collected in the fourth album of NTU’s Music Production Society.

I’ve been wanting to make a VOCALOID version since a few years back, but I couldn’t get the result I wanted.
This time, thanks to Xia Yu Yao’s muffle generation, I was finally able to do it.

Having parted from the tree of life by more than the mark on a scale, the crimson seeds have advanced a step further, silently beginning.
漫長的旅途　是風和砂　堆積的岩石　在我們看不見聽不見黑暗的漩渦裡迷路
In this long journey, with the rocks piled ever higher by the wind and sand, unable to either see or hear, we lose our way in the dark whirlpool.
被吞噬　被淹沒　被沈到深處　最後只剩下我們兩個牽著彼此的手
Swallowed, drowned, submerged into the abyss. In the end, the only ones left are the two of us, holding each other’s hand.

Sample track for the Vocaloid Editing for Mandarin Chinese memos on my blog.
Also the first complete song I wrote both the lyrics and the tune for. Originally a ballad, this rock remix was made when I was just starting to know how to use a proper DAW.

Producer’s Comment (on StreetVoice):

The first song I earnestly wrote in my life. Though, truthfully, it actually wasn’t that earnest; it’s something I wrote willy-nilly during high school when I wasn’t paying attention in class.

When I was making the Rewind series, I got interested in taking on the challenge of tuning VOCALOID to sing in Chinese.

Luka has both Japanese and English voicebank phonemes, so there were more resources available to try and make her sing in Mandarin, but unfortunately, in the end, there was no way to support all the sounds needed for Chinese — for instance, these specific consonants ㄓㄔㄕㄖ of Mandarin.

And Luka’s English actually has a Japanese accent, so her phoneme voicebank was missing some vowels that English should have. Notice how the English “u” which should, by all rights, be similiar to the Mandarin sound ㄨ also doesn’t sound natural enough.

As a whole, if you want to make a Japanese VOCALOID sing in Chinese, Taiwanese has the upper hand here. In contrast, Mandarin will actually have a Teochew accent to it.
